2022 Call for Proposals for Leslie Grove Gallery Rentals

  • Are you a freelance art curator with an idea but no gallery?
  • Are you part of the LGBTQ2S+ or BIPOC arts community with a story to share?
  • Are you an emerging or established artist looking to launch a solo show?
  • Are you part of an artists group of two or more seeking a gallery?

The Artists’ Network is welcoming exhibition proposals from the visual arts community, curators, artists, collectives, working across a wide range of mediums to exhibit in its Leslie Grove Gallery during 2022.

The Artists’ Network is particularly interested in engaging proposals from diverse creative communities to share their respective voices.  We also encourage proposals that challenge the visual arts’ definition and boundaries, whether socially or aesthetically. Besides a gallery exhibition, submissions can include an artist’s talk, art demonstration, community participation event.

Leslie Grove Gallery is located in the vibrant neighbourhood of Leslieville and is the perfect venue for hosting your next art exhibition. We offer 635 square feet of space and a moveable display module that allows you to customize your exhibit. Its marketing team will extensively promote your exhibition. The gallery is steps away from other art galleries, boutiques, restaurants and cafes that draw many visitors to the area, especially on weekends. 

DEADLINE: December 15, 2021

In the light of COVID-19 restrictions and regulations, Leslie Grove Gallery has been adapting its rental services accordingly to keep our staff, visitors, and the community healthy. Leslie Grove Gallery has been following the health and safety guidelines of Toronto Public Health with enhanced cleaning, proper hand hygiene, social distancing, and wearing a mask during your visit. 

Submission is a 3-step process:

  1. Please read all information below and the Rental Information Package on exhibiting at Leslie Grove Gallery. Also, take a look at our past rental shows.
  2. If you do not have an Eventney account, create one, follow the submission input fields, and pay the submission fee.  DEADLINE: December 15, 2021
  3. Once your submission has been juried, you will be notified on or before December 31, 2021.

How to Submit 

Please, read the instructions carefully.

  • We use the Eventeny platform service for our submissions form. You will have to create an Eventeny account if you haven’t already.
  • WARNING NAVIGATION AND DEVICE USE: please do not use  Safari or smartphone or iPad when completing your submission form

Information Required on Submission Form:

  • Business name
  • Artist name
  • Website and Social media platform  (if applicable)
  • Describe the theme of your exhibition, including a distinctive title that relates to your artwork and expands upon it; how the medium and format of artworks reflect your main idea.
  • Choose three rental periods in the order of priority
  • Additional Activity: Describe how your artist’s talk or demonstration or community event will be carried out.
  • Group Shows: List confirmed or potential artists with a very short artist’s statement and bio for each artist.
  • Solo Shows: Provide artist’s statement and bio

Submit FIVE IMAGES

    • Quality image of the artwork. Note we do not accept images of framed artwork, please crop images to the outer edges of the artwork or the background of a 3D work.
    • FILE FORMAT ACCEPTED: .jpg, .png, 5Mb maximum, recommend 1400px on smallest side, 72 DPI.
  • You will be required to input fields for each image:
    • Title
    • Category/Medium
    • Size HxWxD: YOU MUST USE INCHES
    • Price
    • Year
    • Description of the artwork (optional)
  • The submission form can be saved and resumed at another time before the deadline.

Submission Fees

  • Artists’ Network Members:   $35.00 + HST, $39.55 total*
  • Non- Artists’ Network Members:   $50.00 + HST, $56.50 total*

*Submission fee is non-refundable. If accepted, submission fee is deducted from your rental fee.

Solo/Group Exhibitions

Rental Fees

3 Weeks:   Members $1600, non-members $2000, + HST
2 Weeks:   Members $1150, non-members $1350, + HST

Group exhibition: The majority of the artists must be members of the Artists’ Network to qualify for the member’s rate, members are responsible for coordination within the group.

Non-members: We welcome submissions from all artists. You are encouraged to join the Artists’ Network and you will automatically receive the member’s exhibition discount.

 Rental Periods

  • Rental Periods (include the Tuesday for installation)
  • All shows begin on a Wednesday and end on a Sunday.
  • You may select three rental periods in the order of priority.

Three-Week Rentals

  • February 1 – 20 
  • April 26 – May 15
  • June 7 – 26
  • June 29 – July 17
  • August 30 – September 18
  • September  20 – October 9

Two-Week Rentals

  • October 11 – 23
  • October 25 – November 13

Overview of Services

  • The gallery will assist you with the hanging of your show on the Tuesday before your show opens to the public the following day.
  • The gallery is staffed during regular opening hours. Wednesday to Sunday 12-5 pm
  • Staff will be on-site for your Opening Reception to be held on a Thursday or Friday evening or weekend afternoon.
  • Artist Talk and/or Artist demonstration. Additional fees may apply for events scheduled outside regular gallery hours.
  • Gallery online store, lesliegrovegallerystore.ca, offers all works in the exhibition for sale. Gallery offers buyers pick-up service.
  • Artists’ Network does not charge commission on artwork sales; however, a 5% processing fee will apply to artwork sold during the duration of your show.

Marketing Services

You are responsible for providing the graphics and text, outlined in the Rental Information Package, to the Gallery two weeks before the start of your show to ensure marketing services are deployed in a timely manner.

Promotional Package up to $200 value. Our communications and marketing team will actively promote your exhibition.

  • Weekly emails to our community and members lists.
  • Submission to all relevant free event listings.
  • Listing on gallery Homepage, Upcoming and Past Events pages.
  • A co-hosted Facebook event through the Leslie Grove Gallery Facebook pages can be arranged.
  • Promotional posts through the Leslie Grove Gallery and Artists’ Network social media platforms
  • Two weeks (2-week show) and three weeks (3-week show) paid Facebook promotion for the exhibition and related events.
  • Organic Instagram and Facebook posts and reposts throughout the event.

Art Show Opening Packages

Opening Receptions can be held on either a Thursday or a Friday evening,  or a weekend afternoon.

For artists looking to have an Art Show Opening, we offer the following:

Option 1:  In-Person Gallery Reception 

  • Staff will be present
  • No food or beverage to be served  in the gallery
  • All visitors are masked
  • Guests are required to show proof of vaccination

Option 2:  Virtual Opening: $400, + HST including:

  • Photography, and virtual 3D immersive gallery tour
  • Zoom Opening Reception
  • Instagram Live Interview with Gallery Curator
  • Scheduled outside regular gallery hours

THE FOLLOWING OPTIONS ARE UNAVAILABLE DURING COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS

Gallery Licenced Opening*: $400, + HST including:

  • Special Occasion Permit
  • Smartserve Bartender for 4hrs.
  • $100 credit toward wine and beer;  you can purchase additional beverages at cost.
  • Single portion food plates or boxes.

Artist Facilitated Opening 

  • Artist(s) responsible for all the preparation and cover all the costs of the reception
  • Consumption of alcoholic beverages will NOT be permitted on the premises
  • Small refrigerator
  • Tables
  • Table coverings
  • Storage of food is limited
